VEC is encouraging customers to shift energy-heavy tasks to later hours.
With temperatures rising, electricity demand is expected to climb sharply across New England, and Vermont Electric Cooperative is asking customers to cut back on power use through Friday.
The utility says the most important window for conservation is from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. each day, when demand is likely to be at its highest.
VEC is encouraging customers to shift energy-heavy tasks to later hours, including running dishwashers, washing machines and clothes dryers after the peak period. It also says turning off lights and unplugging devices when they are not needed can help reduce strain on the system.
