The confrontation happened near the intersection of Route 302 and Route 112, where police came into contact with the woman.
A woman died Thursday night after a shooting that involved police in Bath, according to the Attorney General's Office. Officials said state and local officers had been tracking a vehicle they were attempting to find earlier in the day.
The confrontation happened near the intersection of Route 302 and Route 112, where police came into contact with the woman. Authorities said she was carrying what appeared to be a handgun when officers encountered her.
Gunfire broke out during the incident, leaving the woman injured. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died, the Attorney General's Office said. No one else was hurt, and officials said there is no current danger to the public.
By Friday morning, the scene had been cleared around 6:20 a.m. Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle being towed away with damage that appeared to include a broken windshield.
A witness, Tom Ricks, said he arrived shortly after the incident and could not make out many details because of the police lights and headlights. He also said he heard officers shouting while they were armed.
