Renovations at the site are expected to start early next year, and the co-op is aiming to open the new store in early 2028.
The Monadnock Community Market Co-op has completed its purchase of the former Rite Aid building on Peterborough Street in Jaffrey, paying about $1.4 million during the last week of September for the property it intends to convert into a supermarket.
According to a March news release, renovations at the site are expected to start early next year, and the co-op is aiming to open the new store in early 2028. The organization has said the project should create between 30 and 40 jobs once the store is operating.
General Manager Michael Faber previously said that Jaffrey was chosen in part because the town does not currently have a grocery store. He also said the co-op is pursuing expansion elsewhere in the region.
The Monadnock Food Co-Op has operated on Cypress Street in Keene since 2013 and now counts more than 5,000 member-owners.
