The plan does not identify the chain or brand, but it shows a layout with two drive-thru lanes and covered areas.
The Keene planning board has cleared a site plan for a new fast-food restaurant on Winchester Street, moving the project at 348 Winchester St. a step closer to replacing the former Rite Aid building.
Approval came Monday after the board postponed action at its September meeting so Riverside Improvements LLC, which owns the plaza and is listed as the applicant, could respond to unresolved concerns about lighting, drainage, landscaping and traffic.
The proposal calls for tearing down the existing 10,000-square foot structure and building a 4,500-square foot restaurant in its place. The plan does not identify the chain or brand, but it shows a layout with two drive-thru lanes and covered areas where workers can stand. Hours are expected to be generally 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
At Monday’s meeting, Joey Fonseca, a project manager with Bohler, said the revised design cuts lighting beneath the canopy areas, adds landscaping to help screen a bioretention pond and improves stormwater handling on the property.
The updated materials also state that as many as 48 vehicles could line up in the drive-thru lanes before traffic would begin to affect the Winchester Street and Key Road roundabout.
