Authorities said his history and conduct while incarcerated contributed to his high-risk classification.
Brattleboro police are informing the community that Brian Tinker, 67, a convicted sex offender designated as high risk to offend again, is expected to leave Southern State Correctional Facility on or about Saturday, Oct. 17, and make his home in the area.
The department said Friday, Oct. 16, that the notice is meant to alert residents to a possible public safety concern. Officials added that Tinker will still have to follow Vermont’s sex offender registry rules after his release.
Tinker has not been placed under supervision once he is out of prison, and police said he is not wanted on any new charge and is not facing arrest for a fresh offense. Even so, authorities said his history and conduct while incarcerated contributed to his high-risk classification, including his failure to complete required treatment.
Police said his convictions include sexual assault involving a vulnerable adult and lewd and lascivious conduct with a child under age 16.
The department also warned people not to misuse registry information to intimidate, threaten, or hurt Tinker or anyone else, saying such behavior could lead to criminal charges. His information will not be posted on the Vermont Sex Offender Registry website until his release date.
Additional updates are expected through the Vermont Department of Corrections and the Vermont Sex Offender Registry.
